About me

I am Carole Hilton-Stone and I am an Holistic Massage Therapist.

For many years I served women in rather a different capacity, having run several small but successful boutiques in Ripon and Harrogate. All good things come to an end and during a period caring for my elderly father I discovered massage therapy. I had always enjoyed having massage treatments, but never appreciated the many benefits involved. After a lightbulb moment, I decided to train as a therapist myself and the sheer joy of seeing clients positively change during and after treatment is wonderful. Being able to offer this from my home, with ample time and energy for each client is the icing on the cake.

I have been fortunate to train with the best and am the proud owner of a level 4 diploma in holistic massage therapy, and anatomy physiology and pathology, plus several other certificates for advanced techniques and so it goes on, learning is never finished in this field. It might be an ancient Therapy but there is always something to new to learn and with modern medical technology and research, the science behind these methodologies is now being evidenced.

I am a member of the MTI and the Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council, the government's only register of complementary therapists. I am fully insured and trained in first aid also.

I look forward to being of service to you.

A Therapeutic Approach

Therapeutic massages are treatments which are tailored entirely around you and how you present on the day, both physically and emotionally. The start of the session will involve a comprehensive case history, so that I fully understand and appreciate your expectations and can design and deliver the best possible massage for you each time you visit. Every treatment will be different from the last because, as humans, we are never the same two days running. Massage is a two-way process, I work with you rather than just “doing” massage to you, guided by the information that you tell me, your expectations and what your body tells me as we progress.

Working on both the soft and deep tissues of the body, I often use hot or cold stones within my treatments, where a change in temperature will be beneficial. Beginning with a little myofascial work before I apply any oils to your skin, this can help to mobilise joints. I find and address trigger points where pain may be referred to other parts of the body.

Massage is a wonderful uplifting tonic for everyone, so you don’t have to have a problem for your visit to be worthwhile. Time spent here is an investment in you. The power of therapeutic human touch can leave you feeling restored, revitalised and as some of my clients say, younger! Sleep is almost always improved and the cumulative effect of just this simple benefit can be enormous.

Common issues & techniques

Common Issues

My youngest client so far is 16 and my oldest 80. Massage can be a beneficial part of your overall wellness regime and assist in maintaining optimum health and managing stress levels.

In my experience, the effects of stress simply cannot be underestimated. If left unchecked and unmanaged stress can be a major contributor to other, sometimes more serious conditions. Massage is known to assist in restoring the balance of the body's systems. When balance of these systems is achieved, the body is allowed to regulate and heal itself. Think of it in terms of taking your car for a service, rather than waiting for a breakdown.

Some of the most common issues my clients present with are:

Joint or muscle pain (neck, shoulder or back pain are the most common) / Sciatica / stress and anxiety / insomnia / depression / tension headaches / Fibromyalgia / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

I have a wide range of techniques literally at my fingertips. I think of it as my own in-built tool box.

The setting

The Setting

I have created a wonderful treatment room which is separate from my house and overlooks my garden. This offers total privacy and peace. For starters, there are no parking issues and the stress that goes with that. There are no phones ringing or doors closing. The setting and atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing and restorative treatment, so from the moment you arrive, you can step into another world where time is suspended and the focus really is all about you.

In addition to the above, I use warmed luxury towels, a heated massage table, premium organic oils, and a flexible but limited appointment system so that I always have time and energy for all my clients.

What clients say

What clients say

“Carole has created a tranquil space where you can immediately relax. She is personable and professional, making you feel at ease as soon as she enters the room. She is an excellent communicator, caring and diligent, taking time to understand my issues and goals and explains everything in detail so I have a better knowledge and understanding of how my body works...”

Diane, Knaresborough

“I arrived feeling tense, tired and stressed and had been having difficulties sleeping. After the delicious massage, I felt like I was floating and had a brilliant night's sleep.”

Karen B, Sharow

“I had struggled for over a year with a bad back and I had tried osteopathy, reflexology, physiotherapy and acupuncture whilst taking pain killers daily. None of these things helped me until Carole suggested gentle massage therapy ... The massage was tailored to my individual needs and has made a huge difference to the pain I was in. Thanks to Carole I am off pain killers and can move more freely. The only problem is that I want to have a massage every week now!

Jessica C, Ripon

“I have never felt so relaxed in all my life. I just wanted to say a massive thank you and I can tell that your treatments come from your heart. I had the best night’s sleep ever. Thank you so much.”

Lucy H

I have been going to Carole for few months now. Nothing is too much trouble. After a massage I feel so relaxed & my skin feels revived & clean. I have been suffering from a painful shoulder for some time & Carole has spent time working on it, I can't believe the difference it has made! The treatment room is in her garden, which is lovely! Would recommend Carole to anyone who just wants to treat themselves to a massage or to deal with any aches & pains.”

Stop the world I want to get off.

If ever you need to get away from it all, I offer bed and breakfast through Airbnb, so we can literally create a mini personal retreat for 12 or 24 hours. I offer a l ovely private section of the house, super comfy king sized bed, with your own shower room etc; a haven for busy ladies. Simply book through AirBnB and then choose the treatments that appeal to you. You'll probably have the best night's sleep ever. You're welcome to join in my morning yoga practice (I am not a yoga teacher but as a massage therapist, I do know lots of beneficial stretches). You can take advantage of the wonderful North Yorkshire air or perhaps just spend time reading or resting. All food is very light and super nutritious of course. After a leisurely breakfast, you will be ready to enter your own world once again; rested, revitalised and rejuvenated.

The price for this is not as expensive as you might think. As a guide, bed and breakfast for one or two (shared room) is around £45 per night, a two course healthy meal, herbal teas and snacks etc. £25 per person and two hours of treatments, £80 per person. I am not a hotel, and this is all about you, so it will be bespoke to exactly your needs.
