About Me

Therapeutic Massage - Working from the Outside In

I discovered the importance of complimentary therapies whilst accompanying my father on a visit to the cancer unit at Harrogate hospital. I was presented with a booklet offering treatments not only to the cancer patients but also their carers. I realised then that the benefits of these treatments were genuine and far reaching and not just something you had whilst on a spa day or holiday.

I trained with the Massage Training Institute in Sheffield on a year long course. Luckily I had some wonderful case studies to work on i.e. real people with real issues and could see the difference massage therapy made to their quality of life.

Since then I have continued my professional development by increasing my range of massage techniques which now combine to make bespoke treatments for each of my clients.

Dru Yoga - Working from the Inside Out

If there is one thing I have learned as a therapist it is that everything in the body is connected and there is much you can do to help yourself - with the right guidance.

My development led me to Dru Yoga and I undertook a two year training programme to become a registered teacher.

Dru has instilled a new way of being/living and an absolute saviour during lockdown. It is a type of yoga that is available to everyone. I regularly say “if you have a body you can do yoga” and you can. To read more click here.

Dru Yoga | A therapeutic approach

A Therapeutic Approach

Therapeutic massages are treatments which are tailored entirely around you and how you present on the day, both physically and emotionally. The start of the session will involve a comprehensive case history, so that I fully understand and appreciate your expectations and can design and deliver the best possible massage for you each time you visit. Every treatment will be different from the last because, as humans, we are never the same two days running. Massage is a two-way process, I work with you rather than just “doing” massage to you, guided by the information that you tell me, your expectations and what your body tells me as we progress.

Working on both the soft and deep tissues of the body, I often use hot or cold stones within my treatments, where a change in temperature will be beneficial. Beginning with a little myofascial work before I apply any oils to your skin, this can help to mobilise joints. I find and address trigger points where pain may be referred to other parts of the body.

Massage is a wonderful uplifting tonic for everyone, so you don’t have to have a problem for your visit to be worthwhile. Time spent here is an investment in you. The power of therapeutic human touch can leave you feeling restored, revitalised and as some of my clients say, younger! Sleep is almost always improved and the cumulative effect of just this simple benefit can be enormous.

Common issues & techniques

Common Issues

My youngest client so far is 16 and my oldest 80. Massage can be a beneficial part of your overall wellness regime and assist in maintaining optimum health and managing stress levels.

In my experience, the effects of stress simply cannot be underestimated. If left unchecked and unmanaged stress can be a major contributor to other, sometimes more serious conditions. Massage is known to assist in restoring the balance of the body's systems. When balance of these systems is achieved, the body is allowed to regulate and heal itself. Think of it in terms of taking your car for a service, rather than waiting for a breakdown.

Some of the most common issues my clients present with are:

Joint or muscle pain (neck, shoulder or back pain are the most common) / Sciatica / stress and anxiety / insomnia / depression / tension headaches / Fibromyalgia / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

I have a wide range of techniques literally at my fingertips. I think of it as my own in-built tool box.

The Setting

I have created a wonderful studio which is separate from my house and overlooks my garden. This offers total privacy and peace. For starters, there are no parking issues and the stress that goes with that. There are no phones ringing or doors closing. The setting and atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing and restorative treatment, so from the moment you arrive, you can step into another world where time is suspended and the focus really is all about you.

In addition to the above, I use warmed luxury towels, a heated massage table, premium organic oils, and a flexible but limited appointment system so that I always have time and energy for all my clients.

What clients say

What Clients Say

“Carole has created a tranquil space where you can immediately relax. She is personable and professional, making you feel at ease as soon as she enters the room. She is an excellent communicator, caring and diligent, taking time to understand my issues and goals and explains everything in detail so I have a better knowledge and understanding of how my body works...”

Diane, Knaresborough

“I arrived feeling tense, tired and stressed and had been having difficulties sleeping. After the delicious massage, I felt like I was floating and had a brilliant night's sleep.”

Karen B, Sharow

“I had struggled for over a year with a bad back and I had tried osteopathy, reflexology, physiotherapy and acupuncture whilst taking pain killers daily. None of these things helped me until Carole suggested gentle massage therapy ... The massage was tailored to my individual needs and has made a huge difference to the pain I was in. Thanks to Carole I am off pain killers and can move more freely. The only problem is that I want to have a massage every week now!

Jessica C, Ripon

“I have never felt so relaxed in all my life. I just wanted to say a massive thank you and I can tell that your treatments come from your heart. I had the best night’s sleep ever. Thank you so much.”

Lucy H

I have been going to Carole for few months now. Nothing is too much trouble. After a massage I feel so relaxed & my skin feels revived & clean. I have been suffering from a painful shoulder for some time & Carole has spent time working on it, I can't believe the difference it has made! The treatment room is in her garden, which is lovely! Would recommend Carole to anyone who just wants to treat themselves to a massage or to deal with any aches & pains.”

Dru Yoga

Dru Yoga registered teacher, Ripon, North YorkshireDru Yoga is so much more than an exercise class. It is all about making space and never before has this been needed as much as it is right now.

We’re all feeling a bit stuck. Stuck inside, stuck with uncertainty, perhaps stuck on your own (or with the kids!) - stuck without the space we need to just breathe.

Yoga is about marrying breath and movement. By creating space in the body we can create space in the mind. The good news is, it’s for everyone. If you have a body you can do yoga.

A regular practice works to build strength and flexibility, calms the nervous system and eases aches and pains, but it is much more than that. Yoga allows us to build confidence and self-worth, to develop our focus and to help us feel more patient with ourselves and others.

I came to Yoga later in life. I saw the effects on my own wellbeing and was inspired to complete a two year course to train as a Dru Yoga teacher. Dru Yoga focusses on the health of the spine, releasing blocked energy by moving through gently flowing sequences, coupled with powerful visualisations and affirmations and always includes deep relaxation. A regular practice can be transformational.

I hold classes via Zoom, in my local village hall (when not in lockdown) and one to one sessions either via Zoom or in my private studio.
